The Montserrat Foundation was established by a group of citizens of the United States of America. Public-spirited persons from the Montserrat community were recruited as members. As some of the US members changed their expatriate status, due mainly to aging, the organization is managed predominantly by Montserratians. The last President of the Foundation was D. R. V. (Frank) Edwards OBE OE who was a member from the inception up until 2016, when the current President, Chivone Gerald was elected.
The Montserrat Foundation Inc. is a Non-Profit Company. It is incorporated in the United States of America as a tax-exempt entity to facilitate donations coming from that country.
It was established since 1972 for charitable giving. Local disbursements are made mainly in the areas of:
The Montserrat Foundation receives funding and provides grants in accordance with its mandate to support the following causes:
(a) charitable,
(b) religious,
(c) scientific,
(d) educational,
(e) literary,
(f) public safety campaigns,
(g) fostering sports developments,
(h) preventing cruelty to children or animals or the elderly,
(i) promotion of health,
(j) the preservation of antiquities and historic sites, and
(k) the protection of the environment.
The Foundation exists to raise funds and to provide support to charitable causes in Montserrat.
